Land Conservation & Community

Preserving the Legacy of Southlands

While primary known for our equestrian activities, The Southlands Foundation is a also a nearly 200 acre nature preserve, open to the public and containing rolling fields, old-growth forests, spring heads, shaded trails and historic landmarks. Our commitment to conservation runs throughout our history, ensuring that this extraordinary land remains a sanctuary for people, animals and nature. Protected by a Scenic Hudson Conservation Easement since 1987, Southlands will remain forever green—a place where the beauty of the past meets the promise of the future.

At Southlands, conservation is more than a mission—it’s a way of life.

  • Protecting Wildlife Habitats: Creating safe havens for local species and fostering biodiversity.

  • Sustainable Land Management: We take a modern, permaculture approach to maintaining our trails, paddocks, fields and other ecosystem.

  • Education & Awareness: Offering programs that teach the importance of land stewardship to future generations.

Every trail you ride, every field you explore and every tree that provides shade is part of this vital work, connecting our community to the natural world in meaningful ways.
